At Benson Pest Management we have come acroos the following rodents: White Footed Mouse, Deer Mouse, House Mouse, Norway Rat and the Roof Rat(also called the Black Rat).

The mouse and rat are some the most troublesome and costly rodents in Maine and the United States. They thrive under a variety of conditions; they are found in and around homes and commercial structures as well as in open fields and on agricultural land, and often found near areas that border on ocean bays or river peninsulas. They consume and contaminate food meant for humans, pets, livestock, or other animals. In addition, they cause considerable damage to structures and property, and they can transmit pathogens that cause diseases such as salmonellosis, a form of food poisoning.

At Benson Pest Management experience has shown it is less time consuming to control rodents before their numbers get too high, and fewer traps and less bait will be required if control is started early.

Once rats or mice have invaded your garden or landscaping, unless your house is truly rodent proof, it is only a matter of time before you find evidence of them indoors. Experience has shown it is less time consuming to control rodents before their numbers get too high, and fewer traps and less bait will be required if control is started early.

Let Benson Pest Management secure your home and make it rodent proof. You'll be glad you did!

Mice frequently deposit faecal matter in the form of pellets and It's not uncommon for house mice to deposit fifty to seventy five pellets on a daily basis. Rats deposit fecal matter at a much higher rate than other pests. The average rat will leave 25000 droppings in a year due to the fact that rats leave droppings as they move.
  • Deer Mouse
The scientific name for a deer mouse is Peromyscus.[5] The species has 56 subspecies.[6] They are all tiny mammals that are plentiful in number.[7] The deer mouse is described as a small rodent that lives in the Americas and is closely related to the white-footed mouse.
  • House Mouse
The house mouse (Mus musculus) is a small mammal of the order Rodentia, characteristically having a pointed snout, small rounded ears, and a long naked or almost hairless tail. It is one of the most numerous species of the genus Mus. Although a wild animal, the house mouse mainly lives in association with humans.
  • White Footed Mouse
The white-footed mouse (Peromyscus leucopus) is a rodent native to North America from Ontario, Quebec, Labrador, and the Maritime Provinces (excluding the island of Newfoundland) to the southwest United States and Mexico.[1] In the Maritimes, its only location is a disjunct population in southern Nova Scotia.[2] It is also known as the woodmouse, particularly in Texas.
  • Norway Rat
The Norway rat (Rattus norvegicus, Fig. 1) is a stocky burrowing rodent, unintentionally introduced into North America by settlers who arrived on ships from Europe. Also called the brown rat, house rat, barn rat, sewer rat, gray rat, or wharf rat, it is a slightly larger animal than the roof rat (Fig. 2). Adult Norway rats weigh an average of 1 pound (454 g). Their fur is coarse and usually brownish or reddish gray above and whitish gray on the belly. Blackish individuals occur in some locations.
  • Roof Rat
The roof rat is dark brown to black in color and measures 13 to 18 inches in length including tail. They weigh 5-9 ounces, are slender, and their ears are large and nearly hairless. Their droppings are long and cylindrical.

Benson Pest Management suggests you use prevention stategies as soon as you see a rodent in your home. Rodents reproduce quickly, and few rodents can reproduce a large population in a short period of time. Make sure to have all possible food sources covered and away from rodents. Small crumbs and garbage are popular sources of infestation, as are dry goods such as grains and cereals. Rodents love ardboard objects and will chew them up to use to build a nest

Benson Pest Management's master certified Maine technicians will be able to determine a course of action to eliminate your rodent problem. If you suspect a rat or mouse problem or have concerns please give Benson Pest Management a call to schedule an appointment for the Bangor, Maine area.

Benson Pest Management does not recommended poison for rodent control inside buildings. Poisoned rodents can die in hard to reach places and cause a bad smell. Benson Pest Management uses bait stations outside your home which is your first line of control of rodents.

We secure poison in tamper resistant mice and rat bait stations. When we place bait stations outside, we consider all areas where bait should be placed such as wood piles, storage sheds and fence rows. We place them about 50 feet apart around buildings or along landscaped areas surrounding buildings. We secure poison bait blocks on rods inside of the bait box. This prevents rodents from carrying bait outside the box and dropping the poison on the ground. We place the bait station so that it will not become disturbed and overturned.

Eliminating a rodent nest can be a difficult and challenging task. A successful rodent control program includes a combination of baiting and trapping for the highest rate of success. However, if the rodent population is large, we begin with a high quality rodent bait, in order to quickly knock down a population and prevent rapid growth. We also integrate into our rodent control program exclusion techniques, a general cleanup, and removal of their hiding places(harboraging areas.)
